Balnaferry House is (mainly) about 200 years old.. with the current frontage looking to date after 1856 when planning applications were submitted to build the current front facade. However, “Balnaferry” is mentioned in maps dating back to 1590 so we believe the oldest part of the house is over 400 years old.
Balnaferry House was the big house of Balnaferry Farm which we have first found record of it’s sale in 1818 (source: libindx.moray.gov.uk)
Numerous fires plagued the farm – first in 1868 and most recently in 1972. In both cases farm buildings were affected, not the main house.
In 1957 it was converted into flats. It is just one house once more.
